In all of the techniques I practice on clients – CranioSacral therapy, Seitai,* Somatic Experiencing and Balancing Movement – my primary interest is consciousness. What does consciousness have to do with these body-mind therapies? The urge towards consciousness seems to be what fires the life force and powers us to explore, sharpen our senses, and delight in our world and beyond.
It is life force, by extension, that we work with in these modalities. It magnetically draws human bodies to help other human bodies. When it senses help, the body naturally lets down its defenses. And it infuses more of the body with its stored life force, which, sadly, is often held back due to contractive fear responses in the past. Fear can manifest in our thoughts, beliefs and in the actual tightening of the tissues.
We all seem to flow or hold back this life force, thus consciousness, in endlessly unique ways. Never completely dormant, held-back life force can cause the material body and mind to change, creating sickness, disease and pain – all in an effort to get the body-mind to open that channel of flow and move towards awakening one's true nature. This may explain the human race's slow evolution towards becoming more caring, mutually loving beings, more sensitive to the beauty that we are.
In future blogs, I will explain more specifically how these modalities can help shift what lies at the core of pain, sickness and disease.
* Seitai is a Japanese word that means “to bring the body into order.” It is a centuries-old tradition of healing from Japan that seeks to activate the natural restorative power of the body by determining the source of a problem and applying the appropriate Seitai technique. In good health, the body is said to be in a "Seitai" state, and functioning at an optimal level.
